Itinerary
Pre-trek briefing:

You will have a thorough briefing with your guide 1 or 2 days before your Inca Jungle Trek 4 Days 3 Nights. Your guide will meet you at your hotel and you can take this opportunity to ask questions and make any final preparations.

Day 1: Cusco – Abra Málaga – Huamanmarca – Santa María

We will begin our Inca Jungle Trek 4 Days 3 Nights at 7:00 am with a pick up from your hotel. On our way out, we’ll pass by the towns of Chinchero, Urubamba, and Ollantaytambo, all belonging to the Sacred Valley. The adventure begins at Abra Málaga a 4,316m / 14,160 ft high pass, with its impressive view of the snowcapped Huacay Willca (Mt. Veronica). Here we will receive our biking equipment, bicycles and safety instructions.

We will then begin our bike descent, crossing different ecological zones such as Puna and Cloud Forest, both having a huge range of flora and fauna. After 3 hours of biking downhill, we will finish our bike journey at the archaeological remains of Huaman Marca. Here we will take the van again and drive 25 minutes to the town of Santa Maria (approximately 1,200m / 3,937ft).

  • Meals: Lunch and Dinner.
  • Difficulty: Moderate day (full of Adventure).
  • Accommodation: Local Hosting.
  • Weather: Warm and windy during the day, with very warn nights.

Day 2: Santa María – Qellomayo – Hot Springs – Santa Teresa

Begin your remarkable hiking day with a hearty breakfast at a local restaurant around 6:00 AM. Today’s journey is one of the most memorable parts of the entire adventure. We’ll start with a 45-minute hike along the car route before entering the original Inca trail, which historically connected Machu Picchu with Vilcabamba, the last Inca capital.

As we traverse this ancient path, we’ll marvel at the stunning plantations of bananas, coca, yucca, and coffee that line the route. Our 3-hour hike on the original Inca trail offers magnificent views of the Vilcanota Valley and panoramic vistas of the hills adorned with various jungle plantations.

We’ll stop at the charming village of Quellomayo for lunch at one of the local restaurants. Here, you can relax, recharge, and explore the surroundings before continuing our hike along the Vilcanota River. The 3.5-hour trek takes us to the rejuvenating Colcamayo hot springs, a natural and outdoor oasis perfect for soothing tired muscles. Enjoy a couple of hours at the hot springs before we continue our journey to Santa Teresa.

A 45-minute hike from the hot springs brings us to our final destination for the day, Santa Teresa. We’ll spend the night at a cozy hostel and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant, where you can share stories and reflect on the unforgettable experiences of the day.

  • Hiking distance: 22 km, approximately 7 to 8 hours of hiking.
  • Difficulty: Moderate day (full day hike).
  • Weather: Warm and Tropical, with very warn nights.
  • Accommodations: Hotel nigh in Santa Teresa.
  • Meals Included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 3: Santa Teresa – Hidroelectrica – Puente Ruinas – Aguas Calientes

Rise and shine at 6:30 am, fuel up with breakfast, and get ready for an action-packed day. Around 8:00 am, the zipline company will pick you up and transport you to the zipline base. After a brief orientation, embark on a thrilling 2-hour adventure across four different ziplines and a suspension bridge.

Once you’ve had your fill of ziplining excitement, take a 1-hour car ride to Hidroelectrica for a well-deserved lunch. Post-lunch, embark on a scenic 3-hour hike along the train tracks to Aguas Calientes town. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and recharge.

At 7:00 pm, indulge in a delicious dinner at a local restaurant before heading back to the hotel for a good night’s sleep. Wake up early the following day, eager to explore the magnificent Machu Picchu.

Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco

On our last day, you will get up very early to visit one of the 7 wonders of the World – ¨Machu Picchu¨. At 5:30 am. We will go directly to the line to wait for the first buses to Machu Picchu.

We will arrive at the gate when the sky lights up and ascend to the top of Machu Picchu, while taking in the impressive views of the city. On a clear morning, the sunrise over Machu Picchu is magnificent; This moment is unforgettable.

Our tour guide will take you on a 2-3 hour guided tour, where we will visit the Sun Temple, Royal palace, Main Temple, Three Windows Temple and Sun Dial. It will be an unforgettable experience.

If you have booked Wayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, you will need to coordinate with your guide for Machu Picchu visiting depending on your scheduled time to the mountain, for people not hiking any of the mountains there are some other optional activities on your own (not included in the price).

Train back to Cusco: In the afternoon you will return to the train station in Aguas Calientes for the trip back to Ollantaytambo. Upon your arrival to train station you will be transferred by car to your hotel in Cusco.

What do you need to bring:

We recommend carrying only the necessary luggage for the days of the Inca Jungle. Large backpacks with equipment that are not needed for the expedition should be left in the city of Cusco (at your hotel or in our main office)

  • A good daypack: Eagle Creek Afar Backpack –appropriate packs to carry your personal belongings.
  • Original passport.
  • Travel insurance.
  • Swimwear for the hot springs of Aguas calientes Town.
  • Lighter trekking boots.
  • 3 pairs of trekking pants (not jeans): 1 hiking, 1 cotton–which is just enough. Please spray both pairs with an insect repellent before the trip.
  • Layers for variable temperatures especially at night
  • 1 rain jacket: The first night the temperature can be as – 5 degrees Celsius/41 degrees Fahrenheit. The rain jacket can be helpful, because there are rainy days even if we are in dry season!
  • 1 warm/Winter jacket
  • Thermals: wool socks, gloves, scarf, and woolen hat for cold nights.
  • 4 pairs of underwear and 4 pairs of socks.
  • 4 t-shirts, 2 long sleeve shirts.
  • 1 good sleeping bag liner that is super lightweight and easy to pack. 
  • Travel-size tissues and wet wipes.
  • Iron tablets and pills for altitude sickness. 
  • Sun protection cream (SPF 35 or higher recommended).
  • Bug spray.
  • Re-usable plastic or metal water container or a hydration pack such as Camel back.
  • Water (only for first day hike). Then we will provide you with water throughout the hike.

  • A headlamp to navigate camp in the evenings and pre-dawn mornings with spare batteries.
