Humantay Lake is a one-day hike to visit the beautiful turquoise lake at the base of the glacial mountain of Humantay, located in the Vilcabamba mountain range.
Enjoy nature at its most spectacular! The special algae in the lake, combined with the reflection of the surrounding greenery, the blue sky, and the splendor of the Andean sun, create a deep shade of turquoise blue that is very rare indeed.
You will have through briefing with your guide 1 or 2 days before your Humantay Lake. Your guide will meet you at your hotel and you can take this opportunity to ask questions and make any final preparations.
We pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 4:30 am and drive 2 hours to the village of Mollepata, located in the lush valley of the Apurimac River. Here we will enjoy breakfast in a local restaurant before we continue to Soraypampa.
Our hike takes us along a photogenic trail called the “Camino Real,” as we gain altitude we’ll reach the tiny village of Soraypampa, where few amenities exist. We’ll continue for another hour and a half, gaining another 1,200 feet in just 2 miles ascending a steep path. After summiting the last hill, we will gaze down on the turquoise lake below, which is surrounded by steep peaks and an impressive glacier.
We’ll spend about an hour taking photos and admiring Humantay Lake and discussing the geography and culture of our surrounding before we return to Mollepata along the Camino Real and board our van to Cusco where we’ll arrive at about 5 pm just in time for you to prepare for your dinner and evening in the Cusco City.
